Use of mass spectrometry coupled to chromatography (LC-MS/MS) for the identification of changes in the metabolism of the microorganisms Amycolaptosis sp

Resumen

Metabolomics provides valuable information on cellular function and response to external stimuli. We propose the combination of liquid chromatography (LC) coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) to perform this study. Liquid chromatography is an analytical tool that allows the separation of complex mixtures. At the same time, mass spectrometry (MS) provides high sensitivity with the added value of the structural information provided by knowledge of the molecular weight of the compound studied and its possible fragments. The union of both methods gives us the advantage of analyzing a large set of secondary metabolites. Metabolomic studies using mass spectrometry are so powerful that they can be performed at the single-cell level without derivatization. In comparative experiments, metabolomics applied to bacteria allows the identification of biomarkers capable of differentiating strains.
