On May 31, The National Institute for the Defense of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property – INDECOPI granted the invention patent to the “Geriatric portable dynamometer” to our university.
It is important to emphasize that, our device was built to measure (manual) strength of an elder in order to better diagnose sarcopenia, expressly, the loss of muscle mass and strength.
This new ownership certificate is good news for our university since it totalizes 15 patents granted and still active in Peru and abroad.
This patent granting, definitely, required the effort of a multidisciplinary team responsible for its development (PUCP professors and the Intellectual Property Office – OPI.) Some activities carried out by these actors were: participation in the Invention Contest INNOTEC 2011 (third place award), participation in the 10th National Inventions Contest – 2011, patent drafting and application the following year.
